Pick of the Week: Yah Poh

Yah Poh is as traditional as Chilean food gets. As for authenticity Yah Poh scores high marks in my book, providing authentic Chilean mostaza (mustard), mayonesa (mayo), and ahi (chili sauce) with their traditional street vender dishes such as Completos (loaded hot dogs on home made buns piled high with cabbage, avocado, and diced tomatos), empanadas (a south american calzone type dish) both baked and fried and loaded with flavor, and churrascos (multiple varieties of chilean sandwiches).

My favorite is the Empanada al Orno con pino which is a beef baked empanada. The flaky crust is filled with seasoned ground beef, sauteed onions, and for that chilean flare, olives, raisins, and hard boiled egg.

It is a surprisingly delicious combination.

Yah Poh’s periodic specials include Chilean cazuela (a slow cooked chicken and vegetable stew), pastel de choclo and humitas (both delectable corn dishes). They also serve up some made to order Brazilian, Peruvian, Bolivian, and Argentinian dishes upon request.

If you haven’t given Yah Poh a try, put it on the list, you won’t be disappointed. And don’t forget to save room for desert, Chilean manjar (dulce de leche) is presented in a variety of pastries as well!
